Upcoming Class: Gender Affirming Assessments and Referral Letters: Case Conceptualization and Ethics
This course broaches ethical concerns and case conceptualization dilemmas, which may prevent providers from feeling comfortable or competent to write letters. Through this course, participants will deconstruct notions which may have led to feeling stuck or prevented offering referral letters. Clinicians who serve transgender and gender diverse clients are likely to encounter individuals navigating the process of seeking gender affirming medical interventions. This training will bridge previously completed assessment and referral letter training. This workshop will provide an exploration of common ethical concerns and case conceptualization difficulties encountered by mental health professionals regarding assessing for and writing referral letters for gender affirming medical interventions. The workshop will include didactic and interactive components.
By the completion of the course, participants will be able to a) Have an increased awareness of some common ethical concerns regarding the assessment and referral letter writing experience, b) Identify ways their own values and biases show up in the assessment and referral letter writing process, c) Utilize ethical decision-making to avoid infringing on the requesting individual’s autonomy and self-determination
It is highly suggested that attendees complete the free online course: Gender Affirming Assessments and Referral Letters: Foundations prior to attending this workshop.
